Inflammation
aMMP-8 is an enzyme produced by the body’s immune system, which can initiate an inflammatory reaction in response to pathogenic oral bacteria.
Clinical Significance
Scientific publications have associated elevated levels of aMMP-8 have been associated with the active progression of periodontal and peri-implant disease.

aMMP-8 acts like scissors to breakdown the gums, which are mostly comprised of collagen. This leads to loss of attachment and bone.
